Andy joined John Lewis as a graduate trainee in 1985 after being turned down by Marks & Spencer. He spent his entire career there, becoming Managing Director of John Lewis in 2007. During his time, he oversaw a 50% increase in gross sales to over £4.4bn, a doubling in the number of stores and the growth of the company’s online sales department. He was awarded the CBE in 2015 for services to the economy. He was named the ‘Most Admired Leader of the Year’ (Management Today) in 2014 and received the ‘President’s award’ from the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce in for his services to the region. Andy stepped down from John Lewis last year to run as the Conservative candidate in the 2017 West Midlands mayoral election.
A former student at King Edward’s School, Birmingham, and Oxford University, Andy loves marathon running, walking, cinema, the theatre, and… Aston Villa… which just goes to show no-one is perfect!
